Clara Boza
I use book forms and printmaking to explore questions of how best to live in the world, and use a range of mixed media to create content. Perhaps because English is not my first language, I am intrigued by words and how they look on the page. As a result, handwriting and letterforms often find their way into my work. I use them both for meaning and visual interest, often combined with symbols and personal iconography. Layers of color, shape, and text reflect the passage of time, memory, and the accumulation of life experience. References to literature and writers reflect the sustaining role that books and reading play in my life.
