Georgia Deal recently retired from Chairing the Printmaking & Papermaking Dept. at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design of George Washington University in Washington DC. Before moving to Asheville, NC where she is establishing a papermaking studio, Swannanoa Paper. Her MFA is in Printmaking from the University of Georgia. She has taught workshops in both print and papermaking throughout the US and Abroad, at Penland, Haystack, the Paper & Book Intensive, the Univ. of Georgia’s program in Cortona, Italy, the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts in Skopelos, Greece, Santa Reparata In Florence, Italy and In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Awarded grants include the NY State Council for the Arts, the Yaddo Foundation residency, Lakeside Studios, Mich., the Maryland State Arts Council and DC Commission on the Arts. Her work is in numerous collections including The Library of Congress, the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Yale’s Beineke Library amongst others.
